VIP Areas, Tables and Group Packages Explained: A Melbourne Bucks Guide
Quick answer: a VIP area is a reserved, upgraded space inside the club, not a closed-off room. A group package bundles some mix of shows, space, drinks and entry for a set price. Compare packages on the total for your group, including entry, rather than the headline price.
Ring any club about a bucks night and you’ll hear the same words: VIP area, reserved seating, group package, bar tab, dance card, shows. This guide explains how group bookings work at Melbourne’s CBD clubs: Centrefold Lounge at 22 King Street, Private Eyes at 14 King Street and The Men’s Gallery at 601 Lonsdale Street.
All prices below are as published by each venue in October 2026. Packages can change, so confirm the details when you book. All three clubs are strictly 18+.
The four things a package can include
Most bucks packages are a mix of four things. Work out which ones matter to your group first.
- Shows. Performances for your group, usually built around the buck. They’re sold in sets, often 20 minutes each.
- Space. Somewhere for the group to sit together, from reserved seating on the main floor to a dedicated function area.
- Drinks. A bar tab, drink cards or table service. It varies a lot from one venue to the next.
- Entry. Some packages include entry for a set number of guests. Others add entry as a separate cost.
Packages also price differently. Some are priced per group, with a minimum group size, and others cover a set number of guests. Read the headline price with that in mind.
VIP areas, reserved seating and function areas: what’s the difference?
Reserved seating on the main floor. Your group gets its own roped-off or set-aside seats with a view of the stage, so you’re part of the atmosphere and nobody is hunting for chairs. Private Eyes’ top package includes roped-off reserved seating on the main floor.
A VIP area or lounge. This is a separate section of the venue, sometimes with its own stage, that groups can book. Private Eyes has a VIP Lounge with its own stage, and the Spy Lounge VIP floor is available for larger groups. Centrefold Lounge has three levels and five bars, so there’s room to give a group its own space.
A dedicated function area. At The Men’s Gallery, function packages include a dedicated function area with a private bar and waitress service.
What VIP doesn’t mean. In Melbourne clubs, a VIP area is a reserved, upgraded space within the venue, not a closed-off room. Staff and security are present, and the venue’s house rules apply just as they do on the main floor. If a group expects something else, set them straight before the night.
How group packages work at each club
Centrefold Lounge, 22 King Street
Centrefold Lounge has four group packages at $280, $440, $660 and $890. They’re priced per group, with a minimum of 10 guests.
- The shows: each package is built around 20-minute shows for your group. The number of shows differs by tier, so ask the team what each one includes.
- Booking: a deposit holds your date, and the balance is paid on the night.
- Entry: club entry is extra and isn’t a fixed published price. It varies by day and arrival time. The buck gets in free when the group books a package.
- Drinks: premium bottle service is available.
Ask the team for the total for your group, including entry, when you enquire.
Private Eyes, 14 King Street
Private Eyes has three VIP packages, paid on arrival.
| Package | Price | Entry included | Drinks | Dances and tips |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $400 | Up to 15 guests | A drink card for each guest | $150 dance card (group show, 1 dancer) plus $50 tipping dollars |
| Classic | $850 | Up to 20 guests | $500 bar tab | $300 dance card (2 dancers) plus $100 tipping dollars |
| Ultimate | $1,100 | Up to 25 guests, with roped-off reserved seating | $750 bar tab | See the venue’s functions page |
Extra guests are $10 each. The Spy Lounge VIP floor is available for bigger groups. Private Eyes is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8pm.
The Men’s Gallery, 601 Lonsdale Street
The Men’s Gallery packages need a minimum of 10 guests and a refundable $100 deposit.
- The range: packages run from $300, which covers one hour and three shows, up to $1,290, which covers two hours and six shows. There are also tiers at $460 and $660.
- Included with every package: a dedicated function area with a private bar and waitress service, free entry for the guest of honour and discounted group entry for bookings before 9pm. You can request particular performers, subject to availability.
- Build your own: prefer to choose? Shows are $100 per dancer for a 20-minute Classic show or $130 for a Duo show, with a minimum of three shows.
- House rules: The Men’s Gallery is a strict no-touching venue, and it’s fully accessible.
How to choose the right package
Start with headcount. If you have fewer than 10 people, a group package may not be available, so you’ll pay entry and buy dances individually. With 10 to 15, any of the three clubs works. With 20 or more, look at packages that include entry for bigger numbers or a VIP floor.
Decide what the group cares about. If the shows for the buck are the main event, a show-based package covers that. If the group wants drinks sorted, a package with a bar tab or drink cards means fewer rounds at the bar. If seating matters, ask for reserved seating or a VIP area.
Compare totals, not headlines. Ask each venue the same question: “For [number] guests arriving at [time] on [day], what’s the total, including entry?” That’s the only fair way to compare packages that include different things. Our cost guide walks through a full budget.
Check the timing. Book early for Fridays and Saturdays. Ask whether arriving earlier changes the price of entry. At The Men’s Gallery, group entry is discounted before 9pm.
Tell the venue about the buck. Say when you book if anything is off limits. A good-natured stitch-up only works if he’s in on it.
Etiquette in VIP and reserved areas
The same house rules apply in every area of the club:
- No touching unless the venue’s house rules allow it. The Men’s Gallery is strictly no-touching.
- No photos or video. The Men’s Gallery also bans camera glasses and recording devices.
- Respect entertainers and staff, and respect a “no”.
- Drink responsibly. Venues serve under RSA rules, and staff will stop serving anyone who has had enough.
